About Us
The Williamsburg Independent School District has been meeting the needs of the children of Williamsburg for over 100 years. Known for innovation and student-centered decision-making, our district is committed to offering students a world-class education in a nurturing and rigorous environment. Our goal is for every student to graduate college and career-ready, be able to think creatively and innovatively, work as a part of a collaborative team, solve problems, and serve others. Here at Williamsburg, excellence is a "way of life".
Founded in 1909, Williamsburg Independent School District is located in the heart of Southeastern Kentucky. We are home to the Williamsburg Yellowjackets, where Tradition meets Excellence. Our district is committed to School Safety, Transition Readiness, Personalized Learning, and On-Time Support for all students. With over 800 students, grades preschool-12, in one building, students and staff build unforgettable relationships.
Our district has expanded career readiness offerings by adding Computer Science, Virtual Reality, Graphic Design, Informational Technology, Future Farmers of America, and Hospitality during the last school year. Williamsburg Independent has partnered with the University of the Cumberlands to offer students dual credit and online courses that can result in an Associate’s Degree before graduating high school. We have recently partnered with Murray State University and Eastern KY University to provide additional dual credit courses in Agriculture, Biology, Teacher Preparation, and several other online courses. Students in high school can participate in work-study programs, internships, and obtain industry certifications that can lead to post-secondary careers.
Through collaboration with community partners, the Alumni Association, the Local School Board members, and the Williamsburg Administrative Staff, students in our district are heavily supported. We believe all students learn differently and deserve opportunities to explore their passions. All students at Williamsburg City School have various opportunities to discover new talents through our music, band, health, physical education, art, and STEM courses. Our staff is committed to offering enrichment opportunities for all students. Additionally, we have a dedicated support staff who spend time providing interventions, specially designed instruction, and mental health supports that lead to resilient learners.
